Attention to Detail
Throughout the design and manufacturing process, our attention to detail ensures your handcrafted orangery will be everything you expect.
After an initial site survey from one of our skilled, experienced designers, he or she will return with 3D illustrations of your proposed design, as well as a computer generated costing. No traditional pen and ink used at this point! We want to ensure the investment you are asked to make has been calculated properly.
Should you decide to proceed, full CAD scale drawings will be produced for your approval, prior to manufacture and as detailed here, should your project require Planning Permission or Building regulations approval, we will deal with it on your behalf.
- Skilled Craftsmanship
- Modern Glazing & Locking Systems
No modern, computerised equipment is used anywhere within the construction of our joinery. Our skilled joiners use their experience and craftsmanship in the joineries to lovingly convert the highest-grade, naturally seasoned, European white oak into the oak orangery to fulfil your dreams. They will use traditional joints and expertise, before our on-site, highly experienced carpenters finish the construction by fitting the latest state of the art glazing, sealing and security.
For security our oak frames are all internally glazed ensuring the glass can’t be removed from the outside. It also means they can’t be distorted in the sunlight, a typical problem with external glazing. We also ensure the frames are stronger and more stable by ensuring each frame is manufactured from solid oak laminates 20-30mm thick. Whilst this process does cost more, our frames rarely suffer from any twisting or warping and enable us to provide straight, self-supporting rafters of almost any length required.
All our orangeries are hand finished in the joinery and feature a minimum of three factory applied coats of paint, translucent for natural finishes and opaque for solid colours. We can supply any combination of British Standard or RAL colours. We are very proud of our craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Whilst we use traditional craftsmanship in the construction of the joinery, there’s nothing traditional about our glass specifications and locking systems. Unless your orangery roof is going to be north facing and shielded from the sun, we use the most efficient Celcius Solar Control glass in our roof lanterns, being up to 35% more efficient than building regulations requirement.
Depending upon whether you select our Celcius Elite, soft blue tint option with a 0.9 kw/sq.m/hr U value and 78% heat reflection, or our Celcius Clear, with a 1.0 kw/sq.m/hr U value and 58% heat reflection (used in most of our South facing frames), your Orangery can confidently be used all year around.
As a member of CERTASS, Richmond Oak are certified to ensure all our glazing methods and specifications meet the stringent requirements of Building Regulations. Richmond Oak is a CHAS accredited company and our installers are Health & Safety Qualifed. Respected Which Magazine recently awarded us ‘Which Trusted Trader‘ status after a stringent review of the company and interviews with many of our clients.
Our locking systems are manufactured to meet the requirements of ‘Secured by Design‘. That is, their design is approved by a team of senior Police Officers. Also, all our Double Door sets feature lever hanles on both doors, which means there is no longer a requirement to stretch up, or bend down to open the pair of doors.
